✅ The short version
- Barakah works without an account. Until you sign in to share your family, everything you log stays on your phone.
- If you share, each record is end-to-end encrypted on your phone before it is stored in Google Firebase. Neither Google nor BARAKAH TECHNOLOGIES, INC. can read your children's names, care entries, photos or notes.
- To manage who may do what, Firebase keeps a few details readable: your Google account's name, email and user ID, family members' names, relationships and roles, and when records changed and by whom.
- No ads, no analytics and no trackers. We never sell or share your data.
- You can delete your account and its data at any time, in the app or from the web.
1. Who we are
Barakah ("the app") is developed and published by BARAKAH TECHNOLOGIES, INC. For questions about this policy, contact us at [email protected].
2. Data you enter
Barakah stores only what you and your family enter: child profiles (name, birth date, sex, photo, birth measurements), care entries (feedings, sleep, diapers, medicine, temperatures, growth measurements, milestones and notes), reminder and display settings, and the names, relationships and roles of family members you invite. We do not collect your location, contacts, or device advertising ID.
3. Where data is stored
On your phone. Your data is kept in the app's private storage (a Room/SQLite database). It is excluded from Android's Google Drive backup and device-to-device transfer.
When you share your family. To share with other caregivers, you sign in with Google and the family syncs through Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore, hosted in the United States). Before a record leaves your phone it is encrypted with AES-256-GCM using a family key that only your family's phones hold. Each phone's own key is protected by the Android Keystore. Firebase stores only the encrypted data, so Google and BARAKAH TECHNOLOGIES, INC. cannot read it. Photos are encrypted the same way.
Key backup. So you don't lose access when you change phones, the family key is saved in Google's Block Store. It is copied to your Google account backup only when Google reports that backup as end-to-end encrypted with your phone's screen lock; otherwise it stays on the phone. The family owner also receives a recovery code, which only they hold.
4. What the server can see
To enforce who may read and change the family's data, some details are stored readable in Firebase:
- your Firebase user ID, and the name and email address of the Google account you sign in with (Firebase Authentication);
- each family member's display name, last name, relationship label, role, and when they joined or their access expires;
- for each record: which child and which member it belongs to, when it was last changed, and whether it was deleted;
- public encryption keys of your family's phones, and pending invitations.
It cannot see children's names or birth dates, photos, feeding amounts, sleep times, diaper details, medicine, temperatures, measurements, milestones, notes, settings or the activity log.
5. Sign in with Google
Signing in is optional and only needed for family sharing. Google's sign-in and Firebase Authentication process your Google account name, email address and account ID, and, for security and abuse prevention, your IP address and basic device and app version information. See Firebase's privacy and security information and the Google Privacy Policy.
6. Sharing with others
We do not sell, rent or share your data, and we do not use it for advertising. Google provides Firebase and Google Play to us as service providers. Family data is shared only with the people you invite, with the role you choose. An invitation link contains your family's identifier and a single-use invitation code; anyone holding an unused link could join until it expires, so send it only to the person you are inviting.
7. No tracking or advertising
Barakah includes no advertising SDK, no analytics SDK and no third-party tracking. Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics are not used.
8. Privacy Lock and notifications
Privacy Lock is optional and uses Android's own fingerprint, face or screen-lock prompt. Barakah never receives or stores biometric data. Reminders and the sleep timer are scheduled and shown on your phone.
9. Purchases
Barakah Premium (a yearly subscription or a one-time lifetime purchase) is sold through Google Play Billing. The app checks your purchases with Google Play on your phone. We do not receive or store payment information. Google processes purchase data under its own privacy policy.
10. Backup files
You can export a backup file (.barakahbackup) to a place you choose. Backup files are not encrypted, so store and share them with care.
11. Keeping and deleting data
Data stays until you delete it. You can delete individual entries or children in the app. Delete Account (Settings → Sharing & Account) deletes your Firebase account and Barakah's data on your phone right away. If you own a shared family, it deletes the whole family and its data for every member; if you joined someone else's family, it removes you and your phones' keys, and the entries you logged stay with that family. If you no longer have the app, see how to request deletion. Leaving a family or signing out does not delete your account.
12. Children's privacy
Barakah is for parents and caregivers aged 18 and over. It is not directed at children, and all information about a child is entered by an adult caring for them.
13. Your choices and rights
You can see and correct everything you entered in the app, export it as a backup, and delete it. Depending on where you live you may have further rights, such as access or deletion under the GDPR or US state privacy laws. Email us to exercise them.
14. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, tell you in the app. The current policy is always available at this address.
