Frequently Asked Questions

Getting started

Do I need an account?

No. Barakah works on its own, and everything stays on your phone. Sign in with Google only when you want to share your family with other caregivers.

Which phones does it run on?

Android phones and tablets running Android 12 or later, in English, Arabic and Spanish.

Does it sync with the iPhone app?

No. The iPhone, iPad and Mac app syncs through iCloud, and the Android app through Google Firebase, so a family can't be shared between them. You can move your data with a backup file: export it on one and restore it on the other.

Family sharing

How do I invite someone?

Go to Settings → Sharing & Account, sign in with Google and tap Share Family. Then open Family Members, tap Invite Member and choose the role (parent, caregiver, temp caregiver or viewer). Each link works once, for one person, and expires after 7 days.

A caregiver's phone says it is waiting for the owner

The family key is handed to a new phone by the owner's phone. Open Barakah on the owner's phone once while it is online, and the new phone will receive the key.

I got a new phone and can't read the family

If you are a member, the owner's phone sends the key to your new phone. If you are the owner and no longer have your old phone, enter the recovery code you saved when you shared the family.

Premium

What is free and what does Premium add?

Logging, the Weekly Log, 7-Day Insights, report summaries and exporting backups are free. Barakah Premium adds reminders, family sharing invitations, WHO and CDC growth charts and trend charts, PDF reports and restoring backups. It is available as a yearly subscription or a one-time lifetime purchase through Google Play. iPhone purchases don't carry over to Android.

How do I cancel or restore a purchase?

Cancel a subscription in the Google Play Store under Payments & subscriptions. To restore Premium on a new phone, use the same Google account and tap Restore Purchases on the Premium screen.

Privacy and your data

Who can see my family's data?

Only your family's phones. Shared records are end-to-end encrypted before they reach Google Firebase, so neither Google nor we can read them. See the Privacy Policy for the few details the server can see.

How do I delete my account?

In the app: Settings → Sharing & Account → Delete Account. Without the app, see Delete your account.
